Energy Saving Lights - Save 10% - 15%
Energy saving is a hot topic. Energy waste not only has a negative effect on out
pocketbooks, but the notion that we can't go on the way we are doing now is
becoming more and more of a mainstream idea.
It's crucial for our personal as well as our collective well being that we
thoroughly research the alternatives to fossil fuels. And that we start to take
some energy saving measures that really have no huge impact on our lifestyle but
that actually do reduce the amount of energy we use. So there are Energy Saving
Lights
In most households lighting accounts for about 10% - 15% of the total power
bill. Many people are turning to energy saving lights as a way to cut down
on their electrical consumption.
Energy saving lights are fluorescent lights in the shape of traditional light
bulbs. They give off just as much light as incandescent bulbs but much less
heat. Not only do they use less power, they also last much longer than regular
bulbs – about 12 times longer on average.
Fluorescent lights are coated on the inside with a material that glows when an
electric current passes through it. Traditionally, fluorescent bulbs have been a
long tube shape. This shape maximizes their surface area to give off more light.
The bulb-shaped fluorescent lights also have a tube inside, but the tube is
twisted so that it can be contained in a smaller area. This allows them to be
used in regular lamps which were designed for traditional incandescent bulbs.
Even though energy saving lights cost more than traditional light bulbs,
using them results in overall savings. Remember, they last much longer than
regular bulbs and they use less power. These two factors result in significant
savings over time.
Although energy saving lights are most commonly used indoors, outdoor lighting
can also be replaced with lights that use solar power. These lights must be
exposed to sunshine during the day in order to charge the battery which is
connected to a photovoltaic cell. When it becomes dark, the lights are
automatically switched on with a light sensor, and will remain lit for most of
the evening.
These solar lights are virtually maintenance free. The battery has to be
replaced every 5 years or so, but other than that you can install them and
forget about them.
There are many ways to cut down on your energy consumption, but energy saving
lights are one of the most effective and easiest. Replacing all your lighting
with these lights results in cost savings and is better for the environment.
