Rising CO2 Levels Problem or Blessing in Disguise
The worldwide emission of the Greenhouse Gas is increasing in an steeply growing
pace. Not a steady increase but an sharp upward turn. This is the conclusion
from calculations made by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA), in their 2007 rapport. The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere rose with 19
billion tons compared to 2006. The CO2 concentration in the atmosphere rose with
about 3% in comparison to 2006.
CO2 Levels and the Hubert's Curve
In the late 1940's Geologist Hubert predicted that the production of oil would
have a bell formed shape. A geometrical increase because of seemingly
inexhaustible supply and growing demand. Followed by a peak and then a
geometrical decline in production capability. Because of still growing demand
prices would start to rise.
Here is the scary part, ironically enough the growth enough of Green House Gas
emissions are following this predicted curve. The news from NOAA only comes down
to this: "We have moved into the fast lane". In a nutshell NOAA calculated for
us that we are now on the fast track to the depletion of our natural reserves.
Now let this sink in for a minute, rising CO2 levels and the green house effect
are only a temporary problem. Let me explain what I mean, since up until now
Hubert's curve haven't let us down we will see a sharp decline in emissions in
the not too far future. Oil is just too costly to keep our production on the
same level.
The new Solution
I know most of you are skeptical, but let's suppose for a minute that this is
right. Consider what will happen if we are facing these kind of shortages?
Now I don't want to give you the wrong idea, that I am a preacher of doom and
gloom, I know mankind is creative enough to overcome the challenge in the end.
And where the solution is coming from is not difficult to imagine. disguise
We are surrounded by so much energy that we would drown in it if we harnessed it
all. The sun's radiation on the earth surface alone is enough to feed our energy
needs a 10.000 fold.
You are probably wondering what I'm getting at. Ok let me ask you, if back in
the late 1970's you would have known about economical importance of computers in
the last part of the century? Wouldn't you have looked around to find bright
kids experimenting with operating systems. Nerd like types like Bill Gates,
Steve Jobs who were producing something mysterious, that was supposedly rather
useless, in their parents shed? Well we know the outcome.
Are we Creative Enough?
Would this knowledge have had any impact on your investment policies,
educational or professional preferences. I'm sure it would have.
Solar, Wind, Tidal, Hydro, Thermal energy, we are swimming in it. It's there for
the taking, yet we are caught up in this idea that energy is both our first
basic need as well our doom.
Please understand that we will meet the challenge, that as a species we have the
capabilities and resources to overcome it. Basic human psychology tells us that
if these two factors are in place the outcome is that we will find a way.
To illustrate that I'm not fooling, have look at the stock and investment index
for Solar Equipment producing or researching companies. They are an average 20%
gaining on the regular markets. And the people who are buying into this great
opportunity are not the average Jo or Jill, these people know the secret. And
they are buying into it at this moment.
Investment opportunities
In a next article I will dig a little deeper in this phenomenal challenge and
opportunity that we face. For the moment I conclude that the Greenhouse gas
emissions are a symptom, not the cause. Therefore are not worth all our efforts.
Let us concentrate on the real solution. Energy is FREE, our challenge is to
harvest and harness it. And the guy or gall that finds the right harvester or
puts it to commercial use will be the next Bill Gates.
The one factor all Americans share is that they won't back down and can meet a
challenge. We can and will find ways and it's up to you to in what shape or form
you and your finances will be at the other end. It is as Roosevelt said, if you
can't stand the heat you have to leave the kitchen.
