Energy Saving Lamps
Conventional Light Bulbs have an efficiency
Lights consume a significant amount of energy in any household. Installing
energy saving lamps is a great way to cut down on you energy consumption and
your energy bills.
Besides saving money, energy saving lamps can help protect the environment. By
using less electricity, fewer green house emissions are released into the
atmosphere, making the air quality better for everyone.
There are energy saving lamps for almost every purpose. Regular incandescent
bulbs can be replaced with compact florescent bulbs. These use only about 20%
of the energy used by regular bulbs, yet they still produce the same level of
light.
Incandescent bulbs convert much of the electricity they use into heat. This is
wasted energy. Compact florescent bulbs use a much lower wattage to create the
electrical charge needed to make the inside coating glow. In fact Fluorescent
lights use 1/4 to 1/3 of the energy. that standard incandescent lights use,
saving up to $34 per year per lamp on your. lighting bill. ...
Even though they cost more, florescent bulbs last 10 longer than regular bulbs.
The cost benefits in bulb purchases plus lower energy bills adds up to
significant savings for each bulb that your replace.
Interior spot lights usually have halogen bulbs. These give off a bright light
but also produce a lot of heat. They can be replaced with LED lights that
consume about 5% of the power. LED lights are not as bright as halogen but
still suitable for most purposes.
Energy saving lamps can also be used outside the house. Spot lights can be
replaced by florescent bulbs which use about 25% less energy while giving the
same amount of light.
For the lowest cost exterior lights, consider getting path lights that use
sunlight for their energy source. During the day the sun is charging the
batteries and on most days will provide enough power to let the lights burn for
most of the evening.
They are not suitable for everywhere – they need exposure to direct sunlight
during the day – but they can be maintenance free alternative to wired garden
lighting.
