loss on energy conversion

Energy Conversion

Converting one energy source into an other always causes a loss. I put together a table that illustrate the  approximate conversion efficiency from one energy source into an other

Conversion Efficiency

Natural Gas to Electricity 33%
Natural Gas to Heat 40%
Natural Gas to Hot Water 60%
Natural Gas to Heating (radiant) 70%
Natural Gas to Heating (HR) 90%
Natural Gas to heat/electricity micro wkk >95%
Natural Gas to Electricity (Fuel Cell) 90%
Hydrogen to Electricity (Fuel Cell) 50%
Gasoline to Mechanical Energy (car) 20 - 25%
Diesel to Mechanical Energy (car) 35%
Mechanical energy to electricity (dynamo) 90%
Electricity to Mechanical Energy (Motor) 70%
Electricity to Heat (Cooker) 80%
Sun to Electricity 15%
Sun to Heat 40%

There is nothing dramatic or nice about this. Its just the state of our technology. Losses can be reduced but the costs of doing that are higher than economical feasable.
